A few nice goodies are available for free right now. Rainy Daze for the iPhone and Rainy Daze HD for the iPad (by JixiPix which makes all sorts of nice stuff) are both free, as is iColorama S for the iPhone. Comic Story for the iPhone is also free right now, but it has a number of in-app purchases. I haven’t ever tried Comic Story.
