Already Thursday? Time Flies. Updates Arrive!

This week is flying by. I keep wanting to do a post about this, that, or the other thing, but the real world seems to keep me far too busy. If anyone ever wants to do one (or more) guest posts, feel free to drop me a line. No need to be a professional…just someone that feels like posting about most anything. I pay a total sum of $0. 🙂

Anyway, here are a few updates from the past week that are worth noticing.

FX Photo Studio for the iPhone is free for about the next 12 hours or so. A nice photo effects app that is usually $2. It was also updated earlier today with lots of enhancements – including full resolution on iPhone 5. My iPhone 5 is purring like a kitten.

Percolator, a very unique Universal app, is on sale for $2. It’s usually $3. Several new features were added in the recent update. I really like the new Tripstamatic and Charmed settings. I wish Charmed could be even wobblier!

Popsicolor is another unique (and Universal) app that lets you create a variety of ink/watercolor effects. Several new settings have been added to this release that allow you to get a bit more artistic with the drips and intensity of the image. It’s Thursday and the entire week has been odd, but I noticed the entire description of the app in iTunes is currently in Chinese! Guess a switch got flipped somewhere. In any event, you may not be able to read the description, but it’s a great app. I’m no Picasso, but I created this flower. Perhaps I should have added some hands – then it would probably be worth more!

What a crazy day.

FX Photo Studio Turns One

Many moons ago I did a video walkthrough for FX Photo Studio, a Mac desktop application. It is currently celebrating it’s first year anniversary of helping people create fun photos and they are giving away daily goodies including things such as Pik.cases, Olloclip lenses, Casetagrams, DiffCases, styluses, camera extenders, gift vouchers, magnets, iHelicopters, photo books, photo apps, iPhone cases, and more. The top prize is a new iPad!

You can find out more on the FX Studio Facebook Page. The Mac app currently costs $9.99 and is available on the App Store.

Using FX Photo Studio for Mac

For those interested in taking a look at FX Photo Studio for Mac I recorded a quick movie showing you the main features. This was my first time making a recording of this sort…so don’t expect it to win an Oscar. I’m sure my next one will be better 🙂 I also did this in the morning before having any caffeine.

Near the end I point out a few of the differences between the standard version and the Pro version. More info about the program is on the FX Photo Studio Homepage.

If you are a fan of FX Photo Studio for the iPhone/iPad, you might want to consider the Mac version.

Update: FX Photo Studio for Mac

FX Photo Studio and FX Studio Pro for the Mac were updated yesterday. A few months ago there was a nice extensive review over on 9 to 5 Mac which went through the features.

In the latest version the following features have been added:

  • Mac OS X Lion compatibility
  • 13 new effects (total of 172)
  • Import images from iPhoto and Aperture
  • Improved User Interface
  • Performance improvements

FX Photo Studio for Mac is currently $9.99, and FX Photo Studio Pro for Mac is $39.99.

The Pro version has support for much larger images (I had no problem with 20 meg RAW files from my Canon), and more advanced image editing and color controls.

I’m hoping to get a little screencast up here later in the week – I figure I might as well learn a bit while showing this app 🙂
